UNIVERSAL WASTE

California categorizes universal waste as waste that originates principally from consumer goods containing mercury, lead, cadmium, and other ingredients hazardous to human health as well as the environment. These are substances which cannot be disposed of in either household trash or landfills. Examples include cell phones, batteries, fluorescents, propane, thermometers containing mercury, and electronic devices.
